The Health, Safety & Environment Team is a specialist team that resides in the Organisational Resilience Program. The core function of the team is to advise and support the Business Groups within the Bureau to effectively manage their health, safety and environmental sustainability risks and ensure compliance with legislation.
The Bureau contributes to national social, economic, cultural, and environmental goals by providing observational, meteorological, hydrological and oceanographic services and by undertaking research into science and environment related issues in support of its operations and services. These operations are diverse, encompassing land, atmosphere and oceans across the Australian mainland and external territories, and provide environmental challenges that are equally unique in nature. The Bureau's environmental performance is measured across a range of areas including operational impacts, estate management, heritage protection, carbon footprint and other sustainability indicators.
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Environment Sustainability Practitioner to lead a small specialist team and provide strategic environment sustainability direction for the Bureau. The successful applicant will oversee the Bureau's Environmental Management System, provide strategic direction and policy advice and coordinate advisory and support services to management and staff.
Applicants must demonstrate a sound working knowledge of the environment sustainability management function in an operational agency and a capacity to drive change and achieve measurable outcomes. Candidates require the ability to develop and maintain an environmental management system, implement environment sustainability policies and procedures and provide authoritative environment sustainability advice.
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to engage with and maintain internal stakeholder relationships and lead a small team. They will possess the necessary skills to interpret, analyse and present environmental data, manage competing priorities, and have excellent systems, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
