Project Assistant [Canada]


 

The New Brunswick Multicultural Council Inc. (NBMC) is seeking a full-time, bilingual Project Assistant who is highly motivated with strong writing, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. This position will provide support to the Manager of Youth Initiatives, primarily in relation to the Imagine NB Youth Leadership Program. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to growing organization making a meaningful change for immigrants in New Brunswick.


Imagine NB is NBMC’s signature youth leadership program created in 2017 to support immigrant and refugee high school youth to develop their leadership competencies and play key roles in the future of the province. The program is run in Canada’s two official languages and it is province-wide. Over a 1-year term (following the school calendar), program participants experience multifaceted impacts including increased community connections, increased positive mental wellbeing and confidence, as well as a better understanding of what it takes to craft a path of leadership in New Brunswick. Under the direction of the Manager of Youth Initiatives, the successful candidate will have the ability to plan, organize, and execute diverse program components by effectively tracking and coordinating resources, timelines, costs, deliverables and performance.


NBMC is the bilingual nonprofit, umbrella organization for established and emerging multicultural/ethno-cultural associations and immigrant-serving agencies in the province. Since 1983, NBMC has played a key advisory role to federal, provincial and municipal levels of government on issues relating to multiculturalism, immigration, newcomer settlement, retention and labour market integration. NBMC is also valued by the multicultural community as a central coordinating /capacity-building body that promotes efficiency, avoids duplication of services, and allows for an exchange of best practices and other resources through its network of organizations, contacts, partners, etc.


The nature and scope of this position is such that a close relationship has to be maintained with the Youth Engagement and Events Coordinator at the New Brunswick Multicultural Council, as well as with Imagine NB program participants.


DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES


  • Province-wide and local coordination of all leadership retreats components (i.e., venue bookings, travel, accommodation, and meal expenditures for youth participants, youth chaperones, guests, and other relevant stakeholders).
  • Develop and prepare program materials and documentation (including pamphlets, application and nomination forms, selection criteria, reference check questionnaires, consent forms, etc.) in coordination with NBMC’s Manager of Youth Initiatives and branding guidelines.
  • Assist in the development of communications tools and materials to promote program success (e.g., social media campaigns, blog posts, videos, high quality images, etc.)
  • Ability to create all work in both official languages (English/French) at a professional proficiency.
  • Communicate with youth program participants before, during, and after leadership program activities as it pertains to their involvement and participation in the program;
  • Occasionally facilitate sessions as it relates to leadership accelerator retreats with youth program participants;
  • Participant case management including problem solving, tracking and recording progress and results;
  • Collect, track and share data on project outcomes to inform impact and planning;
  • Coordinator details and logistics for meetings, which may include note taking and follow up;
  • Work with project budget and ensure it is adhered to;
  • Travel across the province to execute program activities and support project delivery;
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the area of Social Science, Business or Education or related studies;
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in at least one project development and project coordination position;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and French required;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and attention to detail is necessary;
  • Can demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem- solving skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage time effectively, prioritize and exercise good judgment with minimal supervision;
  • Flexible, outgoing and prepared to take on new tasks;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, virtual communication tools (i.e., Zoom, Teams, Skype, etc);

Assets:

  • Knowledge of immigration and multiculturalism in New Brunswick.
  • Passionate about working with youth, for youth;
  • Experience in managing social media;

NBMC offices are located in Fredericton and Saint John, NB. Staff location in Fredericton or Saint John is highly preferred, but consideration for remote work will be given to outstanding candidates located elsewhere in the province.
